How much does an LED sign cost in Australia?
If you've started shopping for an LED sign, you've probably noticed nobody wants to put a price on anything. Here are realistic ranges for what small businesses in Australia actually pay in 2026, based on the products we supply and what we see in the market.
Quick answer: typical price ranges
| Product | Typical size | Typical range (inc. GST) |
|---|---|---|
| LED ticker bar | 0.6–1.3 m wide strip | $1,000 – $1,500 |
| LED cube | 32 cm, multi-sided | $1,400 – $2,000 |
| Portable LED poster | Person-height, on wheels | $2,400 – $4,000 |
| Wall-mount LED video screen | ~1–2 m wide, fine pitch | $3,000 – $8,000+ |
| Large custom LED wall | Built to size | Roughly $2,500 – $4,000 per m² |
What actually changes the price
- Size — the biggest factor. LED displays are priced largely by screen area.
- Pixel pitch — the "P number" (P1.86, P2.5…) is the gap between pixels in millimetres. Finer pitch = sharper image up close = more LEDs = more cost. See our pixel pitch guide.
- Indoor vs outdoor — outdoor units need weather sealing and much higher brightness to beat the sun, which adds cost.
- Brightness (nits) — a screen behind glass facing the street needs a high-brightness panel; a screen inside a dim bar doesn't.
- Installation — a plug-in poster costs nothing to install; a screen above an awning may need a licensed installer and, for some signs, council sign-off.
Watch out for these when comparing quotes
- GST-exclusive prices that grow 10% at the invoice.
- No warranty terms in writing — always get the warranty period and what it covers before paying.
- No local support — an imported screen with no one to call when a panel fails isn't cheap, it's deferred cost.
- Content software — ask how you'll update the screen and whether there are ongoing subscription fees.
Is an LED sign worth it?
Compared to what? A printed lightbox costs less up front but shows one message forever; reprinting artwork costs money every time. An LED display changes content in minutes — today's special, tonight's event, this week's promo — and moving footage draws the eye in a way static print can't. For most shops the honest comparison isn't "LED vs lightbox", it's "LED vs the customers who walked past without noticing you".
